To Prune is to Flourish

Musings from the garden

To those who’ve had the opportunity to visit our beautiful garden recently you may have noticed that we have an absolutely thriving garden bed full of basil. Green and purple leaves bursting at the seams. We have been able to harvest so much basil that I think our community garden members may be able to start a delicatessen stocking purely basil pesto! Delicious! Harvesting and eating all this delicious basil has got me thinking - we wouldn’t have all this basil if it weren’t for the pruning that we do regularly. You see, every week when we visit the garden our basil plant is blooming new heads with flowers, and without careful and consistent pruning our plant would die off and go to seed. As we kick off 2025 in the garden, we want to encourage you to consider what areas of your life could do with a little prune. Life can so easily become chaotic, overwhelming, perhaps now is the time to think about what areas of your life you can reduce, pull back, ‘prune’ to make room for new growth to come through. We encourage you to spend some time (possibly in our beautiful garden), chatting to God about what he might have in store for your 2025, and what he might need to prune in order to allow his plans for you to flourish. Be encouraged that God’s goodness is often repeated in all aspects of creation, and what is good for basil, can also be good for you. So give it a try, why not do a little prune?

Happenings in the garden

Our year has got off to a cracking start, so many of our garden beds are flourishing, full of beautiful produce to be enjoyed. We have been able to donate some produce to our friends over at Hands and Feet and have been able to dream about the year ahead. Don’t miss out on joining us at the garden for one of our upcoming working bees.
